Synopsis
Abstract images and films have been around for about 100 years, but they remain a challenge for many people. Our brains are, to a large extent, programmed to try to find a narrative structure (that is, some sort of story) in virtually any sequence of events. So, what happens when words fail… When an image simply does not convey the lived experience… A narrative without text or representational images…
The image is generated from the video created using a sequence generated in Isadora 3 and subsequently in Motion 5, with final processing in Final Cut Pro X. Audio created from a single percussion loop in Logic Pro X.
In this work, in fact, there is no yellow light emanating from the digital image. The only light emitted by the digital screen is red, green and blue. The colour receptors in our eyes are also, in general, sensitive to red, green and blue light, but within broad ranges. Thus, light with a wavelength of 565–590 nm activates both the red and green photoreceptors in the eye, and we perceive this as yellow. If these receptors are activated more or less equally by pure green light (500–550 nm) and pure red light (625–700 nm) from a digital screen, we also perceive this as yellow..
