Synopsis

EXTINÇ. serves as a visual reflection on environmental decline and the collapse of biodiversity. It is a kinetic artwork programmed in p5.js, which illustrates the disappearance of animal populations. In the work, the image of endangered species is constructed solely through typography, using the letters that form their own names. The animation begins in a state of abundance, with a density of tens of thousands of characters, clearly highlighting the animal in question. However, before the audience's eyes, the text-image undergoes a process of programmed decay: the letters gradually disintegrate until only the exact number of the current surviving population remains, revealing merely a fragmented shadow of the animal – an image that can no longer be deciphered. Presented as a video installation, the work embodies disappearance, linking the slow erosion of the written word to extinction in the natural world.
